Oh and also, I’ve just read in Al Watan Al Arabi that Dick Cheney has a plan to start from Lebanon his greater Middle East ‘reforms’. He got it from the all thoughtful Bernard Lewis who thinks that restructuring the Middle East is like playing Risk. Bearing in mind that this magazine is famous for all sorts of conspiracy theory, it quotes US officials leaking these informations to them, for whatever reason.
Anyway if it’s true, it is supposed to explain the unexplicable US posture towards Syria today (blaming and praising depending on the hour of the day). This spread of confusion should provide fertile ground for all sorts of surgical actions. The supposed purpose of Cheney’s plan is the retrieval of Syrian forces, the demilitarization of Hezbollah, the spread of UN force to monitor all of that, and the eventual normalization with Israel. Syria’s normalization should come at the expense of the Golan, and the neutralization of pro-Palestinian elements. All this while a curtailment (and military intervention notwithstanding) of Iran is effective.
In my previous Post Joseph Samaha (Al Safir) argues about the implication of 1559 on Iran (for those who needs a translation i’m working on posting the principal arguments made).
This updated version of neoconservative planning still permits for the marketization of their military and ideological interests but in a more subtle form.
They have been quick to adapt after they failure in Iraq. The outcome of this can be even more dangerous to us.
For an understanding of the implication of all this on the Palestinian situation stay tuned for my next entry (too depressed to continue typing even more gloomy news).
